About Us |

Laura Allard is the founder of “Give Them Sanctuary,” and was inspired by a visit to Isla Mujeres, an island off Cancun in Mexico. There, she and her husband witnessed an abundance of starving, docile, and loving street dogs. They provided basic hygiene, some food, and lots of love. In return they received much much more. They discovered a shelter that was in a private residence and was in dire need of financial support as well as homes for their many good-natured pups. They rescued El Secreto. He is so called because he was living in the jungle next to a resort with that name and brought to the shelter by a construction worker. They have also purchased and secured over 125 acres of woodland forest and wetland for preservation. Previously a mecca for hunters, the deer, bobcats, coyotes, beavers, bats, and bears are now safe. They are cleaning up trash that has accumulated over decades. They are committed to preserving this land for natural development. They have secured 5 acres of “canine fenced” yard for their domestic dogs. They hope to help may other dogs, as the organization grows. |
